Quavo Launches SPARK Grants to Support Atlanta's Fight Against Gun Violence with $100,000 in Funding

Orgen News

Quavo, in collaboration with his Rocket Foundation, has unveiled the “SPARK Grants” initiative aimed at aiding organizations striving to decrease violence within communities, with a particular focus on Atlanta and its surrounding areas.

The initiative springs from Quavo's desire to pay tribute to Takeoff, his fellow Migos member and nephew, who tragically lost his life to gun violence in 2022. Established in memory of Takeoff, the Rocket Foundation's primary mission is to tackle gun violence across the nation, starting with efforts in Atlanta as a foundation for broader gun control initiatives in the United States.

Through the SPARK Grants initiative, Quavo plans to distribute $10,000 each to 10 organizations that concentrate on Atlanta, providing a total of $100,000 in support. This move follows Quavo's interaction with Vice President Kamala Harris during his visit to the Congressional Black Caucus in Washington, D.C., last September. The day after their meeting, the White House introduced the Office of Gun Violence Prevention, broadening the scope of the Rocket Foundation's gun control endeavors.

Quavo expressed his pride in launching this grant program as a tribute to Takeoff and all families impacted by gun violence. He highlighted the significance of supporting local organizations engaged in violence reduction efforts in Atlanta, emphasizing the foundation's commitment to elevating these groups and aiding in the preservation of more lives.

Organizations interested in obtaining funding from the SPARK Grants program can submit their applications starting March 20, with the deadline set for April 21. The grant recipients will be announced on June 18, coinciding with Takeoff’s birthday and during National Gun Violence Awareness Month.
